Cumberland Lake Wilderness Society was formed in response to the Cumberland Lake Park Master Plan released in November of 2014 by the Village of Cumberland. CLWS is a non profit society with a vision to facilitate and operate a unique business model at Cumberland Lake Park, managing the campground while developing a diversity of outdoor education programs.
The Cumberland Lake Wilderness Society's vision is to facilitate programs that support environmental and social sustainability in Cumberland. Through outdoor education and low impact recreation, the Society strives to improve the relationship and understanding between wilderness and people by learning how to be part of natural ecological systems within and surrounding our community. We will be accessible to everyone while creating economic sustainability within all aspects of the Society's activities and programming.
The purposes of the Society are as follows:
A. To manage the operation of the campground at Cumberland Lake Park in a fiscal and environmentally sustainable manner
B. To promote and develop outdoor education and recreation in Cumberland
C. To foster ecological awareness of the Comox Lake Watershed
D. To develop wilderness programming
E. To implement the Cumberland Lake Master Plan
